Why should we read books ...

WHY?

Definition: "A collection of sheets of paper, or similar material, blank, written, or printed, bound together; commonly, many folded and bound sheets containing continous printing or writing."

Well, that's true. It's a collection of sheets but what makes a book so special, important to some people, worth buying and reading ,rereading and recommending it to other people?

Obviously it's the story, the content, that makes that book so interesting and worth reading. I actually hated reading books when I was in elementary and junior high school. The books I had to read were definitely not my favourites, well it's not the fault of the book. Reading hasn't been my cup of coffee.... That's what I thought when I was younger.

I have so many books, from self-help to educational books and lovestory to a'lá CSI novels and a book filled with proverbs and quotes.

MY first book, which I bought with my pocket money, read with full of excitement and my aim to finish the book as soon as possible - not because I want to throw it away; it would have been a waste of money if I had not read it until the end, however I wanted to know the ending. I was so impressed with the book.
MY first book, the book I chose is one of my favourites and it always will be my first love =P. It's Cecila Ahern's "Ps. I love you". I dont know how or who introduced me that book. I can only remember that I was impatiently waiting for my turn to get the book. Even though I am not really impressed with the cover =).
I read "
Ps. I love you" everytime I had the chance to read it. In my breaks, on my way home - way to school and before going to bed. This novel - haha I guess it is a novel - romantic, a slushy love story made me actually cry. When I was little I remember asking my mom why she is crying when she is reading some books. Well now I know why. I'm not ashamed of telling you that I was crying buckets, not at the end or right in the middle of the book. It already started after two pages. I don't get that sentimental - not that fast but yeah, this book changed the ME.

However the 470 pages weren't the last pages I read in my entire life. Of course there are some books I still dislike .. but only one or two (teachers choice not mine :-) ) .. I was so proud finishing that book in less than a month. I thought it will take forever to finish the book and yes this book was my first big, fat, novel. That's the reason why I was motivated to read more books because I made the impossible actually possible and now I see everything from a different angle.
My favourite genres are only two: Books based on true to life and lovestories - fairy tale like or not. I'm not a fan of
Harry Potter or Lord of the rings. I neither read nor seen the movies.

"So what's the essence of reading books." My english professor asked me that few years back. (Since we told him, that his choice of books aren't the best) -
BTW if ever, IF, he gets to read this, I think he'll commit suicide because of the way I write :D .. Grammar mistakes, they way I use some words and and and haha -
His essence is to have a wide variety of vocabs, to find out why the author wrote this kind of novel, the importance of the century and he always wished us a "happy reading" and "enjoy the book". (I don't know how to explain it, I hope you get it somehow). Most of the time he failed ... too bad.

That's definitely not significant to me, not that much. I want to read books, to enjoy them and not to think too much about the "behind-the-scenes". Of course you want to know the HOW and WHY .. but have the WOW-moments first. You should enjoy the book. I actually always put myself into the character and imagine how would I feel when I experienced that etc. Of course I shouldn't ALWAYS compare myself to other people, I have my own destiny, my own life.
But sometimes it's the "how I wish" feeling and also "Luckily I'm not like this person".
In my opinion each novel, each book has a lesson. Some are realistic, some super fairy tale like. But it should make you think about it. Most of the time people can relate to some books or at least know somebody who is going through the same phase. I have to admit that reading a lot of books helped me and my friends. I haven't had my own lovestory yet but a lot of friends used to seek advise from me. Well I guess I have to thank the authors of the books for that. Even though they tell me, that I shouldn't read slushy stories, it's only depressing and sad OR gives you too much hope of a happy ending in life. They just don't know it, but the source of my advises are actually from the books I've read.

So currently I am reading the Twilight Saga. I'm now reading "
The Eclipse". I must admit that I've been reading this book for months now. I just dont manage to finish this book. But I do look forward for "Breaking Dawn" AND Mitch Albom and Cecilia Aherns new releases this year. "Have a little faith" and "The book of tomorrow"

Mitch Albom is a great author too, I do love, from the bottom of my heart, his novel "
The five people you meet in heaven". It's hilarious and sad at the same time. I learned so much from this book and I did enjoy it. I laughed and cried. I managed to finish this book in 24 hours!

Books keep me sane and I <3 BOOKS. Period.

PS.: All of my books are laminated!! See I love books =)
